Our Story
October 2013. Friends and animal-care professionals Heather Armentrout and Julie Byford embarked on the adventure of a lifetime with Julie Scardina, wildlife advocate and conservationist, visiting two incredible, wildlife-abundant countries, Uganda and Kenya.
While in Africa, these three women met with wildlife organizations and the heroes who dedicate their lives to saving species. From the Uganda Conservation Foundation to Save the Elephants, Grevy’s Zebra Trust and Ewaso Lions -- the research, species protection and community connections were inspiring. Witnessing elephant families greeting each other, lionesses caring for cubs, and mountain gorillas eating, playing and resting is experiencing a world that should never cease to exist.
With the sun setting on the silhouette of elephants drinking and cavorting in the Ewaso Nyiro River, Samburu, Kenya, a pact to help protect this amazing country and its animals was formed. With essential support, earnest effort and the commitment of friends, family and local businesses – that pact grew into Mission Wildlife.
Mission Wildlife events are interactive, educational and inspiring. We connect donors with vetted conservationists who conduct extraordinary work, incorporating local communities with species survival, animal rescue and habitat enhancement.
